There is only one thing has affected the entire world since October 2007: global economic recession. When people’s pocketbooks suffer, the environment automatically lessens in priority. The immediate disaster takes precedence over the disaster that will come in fifty years. Or, if one is a climate skeptic, it may never come.

Whether the global warming theory is true or false, many people around the world care about the environment. The problem is that they seek answers from governments or global organizations like the United Nations. Usually their ideas are regulations of industries and global taxation. If regulation and taxation are not the answer, what is it?

Animal rights activists preach that a vegetarian diet will do more to prevent global warming than all the other proposed initiatives combined. A UN report claims cattle generate more greenhouse gases than transportation. And now in the UK, the first official recommendations for a diet that is good for the environment has been published.

Climate legislation says we can stop global warming, improve our soils and help our farmers all at once just by recognizing the benefits of conservation tillage. Those hopes may be overblown.
